On April 4th, 2010, Mexicali and the Northwest Region of Mexico as well as the Southwest Region of the the United States were enjoying a calm Easter Sunday afternoon when at 3:40 p.m. local time, a 7.2 earthquake disrupted all activity and caused chaos and destruction (see info at USGS: Magnitude 7.2 – Baja California, Mexico). The capital of Baja California, Mexicali was left without power and other utilities for more than 24 hours. Many structures suffered damage, and some more severe than others and some did crumble to the ground as they did not stand the forces of this natural disaster. However, it is important to mention that we were also witness to the fantastic composite behavior of our Building System. We’ve said again and again how TRIDIPANEL has a better chance of surviving these types of forces.
This is not the first time Mother Nature puts it to the test and as all previous events (hurricanes, floods and fires), it has survived unscathed, but most of all, it has protected the people that live or work in these structures. It’s important to mention that more than 2000, yes! two thousand quakes have followed, some being over 5.5 and still 3D structures are standing to prove that it is a better method of construction.
